Keep On Dancing!

You will see that the format of the site is changing. Ironically two weeks ago we were set to close the blog, however old issues have raised their heads and we felt we could not allow ourselves to be seen to be silenced. Clearly there are now fewer and fewer contributions but interestingly, more and more pages are  being visited, so there are people out there who are still enjoying reading the blog content.

We have decided on a new format and have moved things around. We hope you will have a fun finding the new homes of your favourite items.

Unfortunately, in doing this, we have had to remove some of the older reports which have been well read and enjoyed.

We want this blog to remain an information site for social dancers. We hope to highlight the conversations, issues and jokes that reflect the mood of your dances and yes, having been sequence dancers ourselves, we all know dancers talk about free scripts, dvd’s, music and competition winners. They also talk of  the associations  who many still feel won’t listen when they complain about the number of new dances each year..  We hope you will let us print your stories, photo’s as it can only promote the dancing of the future.

We do occasionally raise the darker  issues,  in the hopes that we can understand the reasons behind the rules that governs non professional sequence dancing.   

What we will  not do is condone unsupported gossip and finger pointing.  If anyone wants to raise issues with us about blog items, they know where we can be contacted and I am sure the same goes for everyone else.   This is not the Wild West in the 1800’s where gossip was the judge,  jury and hangman. In fact Gossip resolves nothing. In this country in 2009 you are innocent until proven guilty and we hope you will support us in upholding that  ideal.

If you think someone is breaking the rules and you feel strongly enough about it, the person to contact is Roy Sharpe who chairs the BDC Sequence Dance Advisory Committee. He has been a great help to us here and I am sure, if you contact him, he will be happy to answer your questions or discuss your concerns.  His telephone number is available in the list of contacts on the BDC website.

Learn how to run both participation dancing and how to set up, host and run dance competitons.

This is a weekend of sharing and learning in a fun relaxed environment.

You don’t need to prpare anything just turn up, meet new friends and have  fun learning new routines and tried and tested teaching techniques in dance.

One of the searches today was for a dance school in Middlesbrough.

The only one I know is Joan Martin School of Dance in Eston, just a few miles down the road.

This is an excellent school with a thriving youth dance section.

There is private lessons and a weekly dance for adults.

Contact Joan or one of her daughters, I am sure you will find them very helpful.
